What to do first in Chaos Zero Nightmare

Last reviewed · Editor: btiger · Public-source guide.

Finish the tutorial, progress the main story to unlock systems, and invest in a small working team before spreading materials across the roster. Learn AP and stress early: a powerful card is useful only if you can afford it and keep the team functioning. This route is editorial advice grounded in the linked beginner guides.

A useful first-session route

Game8 and Prydwen both explain story-led progression and the combat basics. Prydwen's beginner article is dated October 21, 2025; exact unlock chapters and old launch rewards may have changed, so they are not reproduced as a current checklist.

  • 1. Complete the tutorial and follow the main story and Growth Guide prompts to open account systems.
  • 2. If rerolling matters to you, decide before binding a mobile guest account. Rerolling is optional.
  • 3. Build a damage plan with supporting draw/AP, healing or shielding; upgrade the characters you actually use.
  • 4. Use the resource stage for the material currently blocking progression instead of farming unrelated gear.
  • 5. Complete a manageable Chaos run and understand which cards, upgrades and equipment its Save Data retained.
  • 6. Claim available daily and event rewards after checking their actual notice dates; old launch reward totals are not permanent entitlements.

Read the battle before playing cards

AP pays for ordinary cards; EP pays for Ego Skills. Look at enemy intent and action counters before committing to a long sequence. A break can delay an enemy, while shielding can prevent damage and stress. Attack, Skill and Upgrade cards serve different purposes; adding every reward can make the cards you need harder to draw.

Avoid the common early resource traps

Editorial priorities: maintain a small team, then expand for a clear requirement. Upgrade useful Potentials and matching Partners rather than assuming a new high-rarity unit fixes every problem. Keep currencies with different uses separate. A Build Preset is a plan; Save Data is the build retained from a run or obtained through its own system.

Returning after a break

Start with current maintenance and event notices, then inspect which systems are unlocked on your account. Do not apply a launch-era route as if every milestone still matches. If story progression stalls, check the Growth Guide and promotion requirements before spending premium currency.
