Chaos is a planet-consuming black fog that distorts environments and living beings. The player leads the SS Nightmare through this disaster. The opening centers on the captain's missing memories and a mission to recover Renoa; later conflicts ask what purifying Chaos costs and who has the authority to demand it.
Setting without major plot spoilers
The official mobile descriptions establish Chaos, Earth's Blue Pot and the SS Nightmare. Game8's story guide independently explains humanity's attempt to purify Chaos Cores. Combatants' stress and trauma connect the survival theme to the battle systems; the setting is more than a sequence of disconnected card fights.

Opening-arc spoilers: Renoa and Judas
Spoiler warning: the following summarizes Game8's published opening-arc account, a single secondary source. It is not a complete current script. Revisions may change scenes and dialogue, so no chapter-by-chapter transcript or exact current chapter numbering is claimed.
| Stage of the arc | What happens in the published summary |
|---|---|
| Rescue | The captain recalls Renoa enabling an emergency escape and leads a return to the Blue Pot to recover her. |
| Confrontation | Inspector Louis comes aboard. Judas demands custody of him as a supposed heretic, and the captain refuses without evidence. |
| Trion and Haven | The crew seeks mediation; Azelante and Luche become involved in the conflict. |
| Purification | The crew witnesses Judas using a human sacrifice to purify a Chaos Core, turning the dispute into an ethical confrontation. |
| Later confrontation | The published account continues beyond Judas' initial capture to the Foretold Ruin and his death; capture alone is not the ending of that summary. |

Automaton's November 14, 2025 report describes the director addressing writing-team departures and a plan to rewrite the story. That report establishes a historical controversy, not the precise contents of every later revision. No release date for a particular rewrite is asserted here without its own current notice.
