Epiphany, Divine upgrades and Latent terminology

Last reviewed · Editor: btiger · Public-source guide.

Epiphany develops a combatant's cards during a run. Public guides distinguish obtaining a unique card, choosing a card upgrade and receiving an additional Divine effect. Those changes matter only if they fit the build and can be retained in Save Data. Latent is not established here as a separate upgrade tier.

Combatant, Card and Divine Epiphany

Game8's Epiphany guide and Prydwen's combat guide independently describe the progression. The table uses descriptive labels; it does not claim that every upgrade must follow a guaranteed timing schedule.

Combatant EpiphanyAdds a combatant's unique cardChoose the card that starts the intended engine

How does an Epiphany trigger?

Look for the character/card indicator during a run. Game8 distinguishes the AP paid to use the marked triggering card from the resulting card's first free use. Saying all marked cards cost zero AP would erase that distinction. This detailed cost sequence is single-source in this audit. Potential progression can affect initial Epiphany access, but no current cost table or probability is estimated.

What does Latent Epiphany mean?

A community quick-tips post on Speedrun.com uses latent epiphany for a ready upgrade left unused during battle that is handled afterward. That is a single community account, not a verified current official definition. It does not establish Latent as a fourth rarity or as a tier parallel to Divine. The exact current behavior was not independently confirmed.

Why did an upgrade disappear from Save Data?

Game8's Save Data guide describes retention capacity and added costs for Divine effects. A strong upgrade found during the run is not automatically a promise that every change survives into the final loadout. Plan the core cards before optional bonuses; no fixed current Divine chance or universal point cap is given here.

Questions

Is Latent a Divine upgrade tier?

The audited guides do not establish that classification. A single community post uses Latent for an unused pending upgrade handled after a battle.

Does every marked card cost no AP?

Game8 distinguishes paying for the triggering card from the resulting card's free first use. Do not assume the initial marked card is free.
